Turkmenistan pumps up gas deliveries to China

China is expected to conclude talks this year to purchase 50% more gas from Turkmenistan, Bloomberg reported.
The country may sell China 20 billion cubic meters of gas annually, in addition to the 40 billion it plans to supply by 2015, Turkmenistan's first deputy prime minister Baymurat Hojamuhamedov said on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Russia's Gazprom - the world's biggest gas producer - has been struggling to complete a deal with China as a consensus on price and pipeline routes has yet to be reached.
“If they can continue to ramp up volumes from Turkmenistan, it may put pressure on Gazprom to deliver into the east of the country if it wants a deal,” said Julian Lee, senior energy analyst at the London-based Centre For Global Energy Studies.
